Welcome folks, for this very last post of 2014/very first post of 2015.
Tonight, as these words make their way through the virtual space of the web, millions of people are either kissing or feverishly looking for someone to kiss. That is of course, after and before they drink themselves to oblivion, in celebration of the new year.
I participated in that ritual a few times myself, mostly the feverishly looking part when I was younger. But no more.
Firstly as I’m in no need to look. I have someone to kiss. Secondly, as I’m in no need of waiting. I can get a kiss from my wife anytime I want to (as long as I meet a few basic criteria).
I can drink anytime I choose to as well. I’m over 21. Twice actually. with some change to spare. I got a nice bottle of Vodka right here (and I won’t hesitate to use it!) and some pineapple juice in the fridge. In fact, let me get some.
Ok, 99 glasses of Vodka-pineapple on the wall and so on.
What makes this night so special for so many? The whole “out with the old and in with the new”? But what exactly is new? Is the world a different world? Is there a difference between the night of 12/31 and any other night? Does time really mean anything?
Are the politicians less crooked? Are the thieves and murderers busy repenting? Promising to change their ways? Are we? Do we mean it?
All of the above are, of course, rhetorical. But the bottom line – it seems – is that tonight is nothing more than another reason to celebrate. And why would I be the one to spoil the party?
Let me wish you all a Happy New Year. May all your wishes come true (unless they involve harm to others), and most importantly great health!
And now… Now is the time for a timeless kiss. Ready?
Happy new year everyone! See you again soon, don’t forget a sweater!!!
